Our rates are all inclusive. They include the shoot itself, professional makeup, and retouching. The only thing not included is the printing, because we don’t do that :(
The most common question we get is about what you should wear. Ultimately, you should wear something that makes you feel confident, strong, and sexy. Perhaps something you’d wear for a night out with friends or a first date. Wear a solid color with out much of a pattern but bring some options, and we'll have some fun.
HYDRATE, REST, REVIEW
Leading up the the shoot make sure you’re drinking plenty of water and getting plenty of rest. We want you to have that energetic glow and these are critical practices in achieving that.
Make sure you also review our studio location and allot enough travel time. We are a little walk away from the subways, so please account for that.
CANCELING or RESCHEDULING
As long as you give us 72 hours notice, we can easily reschedule. One way we can keep our all inclusive rates competitive is by scheduling our team in advance. But, we get it. Things come up! As soon as you know, let us know and we’ll work with you.
Will I get my deposit back if I cancel or reschedule?
Deposits are non-refundable for cancellations with less than 72 hours notice. If you give us less than 72 hours notice and would like to reschedule your session, you will be required to supply a second deposit to hold the appointment. Otherwise deposits are deducted from the total cost of your session and you will have up to a year to reschedule your session. Yay!
How to make a headshot great
We feel strongly that there are some key elements necessary to make a truly great headshot.
First, the headshot must look like you. Sure, we’re talking about the drop-dead-gorgeous-most badass-sexiest version of you but it’s still you.
Second, the headshot needs to capture you in an honest and genuine moment. The camera doesn’t lie and we never advocate trying to trick it. What we do is create a space where you are relaxed and free to be yourself. Then we capture the moment. Pretty simple, really.
Third, the headshot should be a compelling and engaging image. This is where our decades of experience comes in, as we know exactly what casting directors and reps are looking for.
Lastly, you need to love it! Headshot in-hand, you should feel confident and ready to take on the world or we haven’t done our job.
We shoot in a studio.
We shoot in a studio because it allows us to spend more time shooting and less time finding the light. Working in our studio gives you control over your session in a way that being in the public sometimes makes difficult. It’s also very comfortable in our studio! We have a full kitchen, bathroom (with shower if needed), make-up area and dining area - essentially everything you’d need. There we can focus on you and only you without the distractions that come with being outside.
If you have a strong preference for natural light and doing a shoot outside we can certainly accommodate you! Just contact us for those fees and we’ll make it work.
The vibe on shoot day
Together, we built this headshot studio from the ground up with the client at the forefront of all our decision making. Our mission is to make sure you’re relaxed and having fun from start to finish. To do that we’ve removed as much stress from the process as possible, thus creating an environment that allows you to be you!
So, what's with the swords?
Gene’s work as a book cover photographer has given him a huge collection of fun props. We keep them around the studio and not surprisingly - clients love them.
That was fun, so what's next?
After your session with us we will process all of the photos from their original format into Jpgs for you and your reps to select from. You should expect them between 3-5 business days.
We will email you a file through WeTransfer that you should then save to your computer and another drive. We do our very best to archive these photos for you but we cannot reasonably guarantee that we’ll be able to keep them forever. Now that you have your files share them with your friends and Reps. Post a few of your favorites on Facebook and ask your friends to pick their favorites (be sure to tag @gmheadshots.)
Once, you’ve selected your favorite shot email Lucas the file name (example: KathyIreland_10038.jpg) and the photo itself. It doesn't need to be a full res photo, we are only using it for reference. Include in the email what you’d like retouched.
Why we don’t send RAW images?
Space. The vast endless void that has neither a beginning or an end, that is both barren and the stuff of life itself. That, and the raw files are HUGE. You may notice that the camera we use is not the average. It costs more than Lucas’s car. Which frankly isn't saying much. The file sizes are massive and to send those out would eat up gigs of space on your computer and take days (seriously) to upload and transfer.
Sadly, photography isn't quite perfect yet and retouching allows us to take a great image and make it a little bit better. Standard turnaround time for retouching is 3-5 days. Here is a brief list of what a basic retouching includes:
Upon request we can:
Can I have my friend Retouch the image?
Please do! We will give you a very high-res Jpeg that you may have retouched. We only recommend that you allow us to do it because we can work with the original image that has all the raw data on it.
Can I use my headshots however I like?
Of course! We give you hi-res digital files of your shots to print, share, tweet, snap, or post until your heart’s content. We do require that our clients sign a model release form in order to protect us, and more importantly YOU, from the photo being used commercially without your approval.
